America has confirmed it wants to hear Monroe native Damien Lawson compete in the final round of NBC's hit singing show, "The Voice."
Lawson was booted out of the competition early on Tuesday (Dec. 9) night's show but then allowed to compete with eight other previously eliminated semifinalists who were voted off in recent weeks for a fourth "wildcard" spot in the finals and a chance to win it all.
Viewers cast their votes via text, social media and by downloading Lawson's Tuesday night performance of Bruno Mars "Grenade" on iTunes.
Lawson, who grew up singing in church in Monroe and relocated years ago to Los Angeles to pursue what was ultimately a failed attempt at a music career, made it to the top five before he was voted out, then back into, the finals.
Before he joined "The Voice" cast, he worked for the Transportation Security Administration at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Cam Newton Car Accident
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday in Charlotte. Team Director of Communications Charlie Dayton said Newton suffered two transverse fractures in his lower back and no internal injuries.
The Panthers released a statement: "Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation."
The injury is similar to the one suffered by Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who missed one game with the injury earlier in the season before returning to action. The transverse process is the small bone that sticks out of either side of the vertebrae on the spine. The Charlotte Observer reported Newton is likely to miss Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Newton was loaded into an ambulance after his car apparently overturned in the wreck. There are several tweets that captured images from the scene. FOX Sports Carolinas learned that Newton didn’t want to be transported and argued with police and medics about it.

Judy Baar Topinka has Died
Judy Baar Topinka, 70, had been elected to her second term as comptroller in November, and was preparing to be sworn in next month. She was the first woman to serve in statewide office, and the first female Republican to win her party’s nomination for governor.
Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, a brash pioneer for women in Illinois politics, died early Wednesday, less than a day after suffering a stroke.
Governor Pat Quinn ordered flags at state buildings lowered to half-mast until her funeral.
“She was one of a kind,” former Gov. Jim Thompson said.
Spokesman Brad Hahn said Topinka was hospitalized Tuesday, after feeling discomfort. After undergoing tests Tuesday at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, she appeared to be doing well, but then lost consciousness overnight, and died around 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to Hahn.
Topinka was also the first woman to serve as chair of the Illinois Republican Party.
Thompson called Topinka the “ultimate retail politician.”
“She was a smart, tough, blunt, plain-talking person that the voters in both parties responded to,” he said.

NASA Prepare Launch Mars Spacecraft
Friday, December 5, 2014
NASA back trying to launch a spacecraft Mars for the second time. They were hoping to land a man on Mars by mid 2030.
If it goes ahead as planned, Friday’s test launch will be uncrewed. The capsule will circle the Earth twice before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Baja California. It will be recovered by Nasa and the US Navy.
The first attempt to launch the mission on Thursday was plagued by technical and weather problems. Mission control eventually postponed the launch by 24 hours.
Friday’s launch window opens at 7.05am (12:05 GMT) and lasts for 2 hours and 39 minutes.
One of the problems that delayed the initial launch was the appearance of a boat in the restricted area of the Atlantic, off the coast of Florida near Cape Canaveral. Strong gusts also triggered several automatic aborts as the wind speed rose above 20 knots (about the speed of the sprinter Usain Bolt).
The mission was finally aborted because of a technical issue in the rocket engine. A number of valves that regulate the flow of liquid hydrogen fuel into three core boosters of the rocket’s first-stage engine failed to close. Normal operation calls for them to remain open during the fuelling and then shut tight a few minutes before liftoff to seal the fuel tank. This did not happen.
Engineers from Lockheed Martin, which built the Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle, have been working on the problem since.
“We’re very confident we’re going to be able to exonerate the equipment,” said Dan Collins, chief operating officer of United Launch Alliance.
Preparations for refuelling began on Friday morning around 08:00 GMT. The fuel is a mix of liquid oxygen and hydrogen which is ignited to create the thrust needed to lift the spacecraft into orbit.

Little of About Peter Pan Live
Welcome to the wonderful world of Peter Pan Live! where NBC tries to recapture the magic of Sound of Music Live!
You Have To at Least Try To Like ‘Peter Pan Live!’Peter Pan Live‘s Allison Williams Joins a Long Tradition: Women Playing PanBlastoff! 'Mars Era' Begins as Orion Test Flight Launches NBC News'Die-Ins' Spread as Chokehold Death Outrage Grows NBC NewsProtesters March After Phoenix Cops Kill Unarmed Dad NBC News
The show kicks off at the well-appointed London home of the Darling Family. The family have hired a dog as their nanny, but when the hard-working canine gets hair on the waistcoat of Mr. Darling (Christian Borle), he wants her to sleep outside.
Mrs. Darling (Kelli O’Hara) tries to talk some sense and compassion into her buttoned-up husband, but when she mentions that she saw a mysterious boy and a ball of light lurking outside their window, and that the dog saved them, Mr. Darling rolls his eyes. And then, in the long tradition of uptight patriarchs (see also: Mary Poppins), he ignores his wife and children and chucks the poor dog outside anyway.
As soon as the dog and Darlings are gone, Allison Williams — and her wig and British accent (we weren’t told there would be accents!) — comes flying though the window as Peter Pan, clad in green capri pants, a mesh shirt and gold-trimmed vest.
Peter heads straight to the dresser to retrieve his lost shadow from a drawer, waking Wendy (Taylor Louderman) as he struggles to reattach it. Wendy isn’t bothered by the intrusion of what looks like a gawky teen who swung by Sherwood Forest for some fashion tips before embarking on a life of crime and home invasions. Instead she takes him for a tour of the house.
